hi guys

if i were to walk along the beach shore and find
chunks of porous rocks that were washed up on to the shore,
can i use this in my marine tank and have it seeded by
a smaller piece of live rock thus colonizing the newly introduced
item?

OCELLARIS: It's usually referred to as "BASE ROCK" not dead rock. And with time, any rock can become live. You must just be cautious with which rock you choose as some contain nasties that will leach out into your water with time and cause endless headaches (algae problems etc)

hi matt165

i have been to natures petland and they had base rock in huge quantities
and live rock aswell, would it be safer to buy base rock from them
with some live rock and have them colonize onto the base rock, would that rock be safer? they have saltwater marine tanks there aswell
