Hi everyone, my boyfriend and I started a marine tank a few months ago and things are going really well. We have brought a few fish and have caught a few. We found a really interesting piece of seaweed. It's red and tree-like with brown leaves. It's quite small and had a "root" so we decided to bring it home. It looks stunning in the tank but i have now heard that red seaweed can kill everything in the tank. I have searched the internet to confirm this information but I can't find anything. Please help as i would hate for my beloved fish to die.

Hi Candy, welcome to MASA. Can you post pics of the whole tank and the filtration? I'll have to look in my book at home if there are seeweed like that.

Thanks for all the welcome messages guys!!! :)

Looking at this seaweed the best way I can describe it is as a fern. I have searched all over looking for a species name or something. The closest I could find was "Sea Lace". I really hope that its ok to have in our tank....

Might be Sargassum spp with red hair algae choking it. Hard to see from the PIC.
