sea uchin id plz

    Please could you id these urchins. They in rock pools close to where I stay. Can you tell me if they are poisonous to humans and fish,if they suitable to be in a tank,what they eat? are they reef safe. There are bright red,bright purple urchins and there are 100's and 100's of them.

    Perfectly fine for a reef tank. I've had one from Durban in my tank for a year now. Serious algae eaters.

    what if my fish nips at it. would it harm them or would they die?

    Highly doubt your fish will nip at it. I move mine with my hands and haven't been poisoned yet. The spines of this urchin aren't too sharp.

    hi bud that urchins will not survive in ur tank as hermanus water is cold and ur tank water is 25deg the ones from durban are ok for our tanks
