    Hi friendly folk, :wave2:

Fishkeeping had always been an avid childhood hobby of mine...sometime between then and now I have been studying, job hopping and then getting married. Sadly I feel like my hobby was lost then. :(

Luckily my wife is also as intrigued as I am w.r.t. marine setups and marine ecology. :slayer:

This site was my greatest find in getting me to remember some aspects of my childhood days. All of my setups in the past have been freshwater ones...but now after regularly browsing this site I am keen to setup a nano marine tank for starters and then see how things progress from there.

I live up in Jhb, in Honeydew and am keen to meet a few people up here who are junior to intermediate marine tank owners. I'd like to chat to you guys to learn a few tricks of our passion before I even start looking to buy equipment etc.

    Chat to you guys soon.

Big up to the Marine Aquariums SA forums

Welcome to MASA! It is good to hear you want to learn before you start purchasing equipment. Take your time with this. Figure out what you want to keep, and we can help you with your equipment options. Research everything before you purchase, livestock included. ;)

    Tx Anemone & Boegie, :wave2:

I'm in IT and researching is my thing...problem tho is that I am also an impulsive shopper...and checking out some of the members tanks gets me into that impulsive mode very quickly! :nono:

BUT, I have learnt to exercise restraint after reading about the amount of effort involved in the setup and all the horrid things which can happen if the 'basic rules' aren't adhered to.

Hoping that the thread created by dallasg for the August meet gets more attention so that I can join in and learn a thing or 20.

Leave your wallet and credit cards at home when you go to the LFS for a while. You will save a lot of money and a lot of lives. Also, research what you are told at the LFS, it is not always good advice.

hello kershan and welcome to masa:)

nice to have you join and great that you are researching a little before spending money, its by far the best way to go:)

when i started out i met lots of reefers and had a look at their tanks to see what they did and why, it made my understanding of filtration so much easier so if you get a chance to see some of the great tanks in JHB then grab it with both hands.

anlso lovely to hear your other half shares your interest and passion for marines, it will make reefing much more satisfying if you can share it with your partner:)

    welcome and happy postings

    Welcome

I also started with nano's, problem is that i ran out of space to quick and had to upgrade to a 4foot. Now the nano is the quarintine tank.

    Enjoy

Kershan, you have come to the right place. Folks here are very helpful and FYI, we LOVE pictures. So, when you do decide what you're thinking of buying or building, post pictures or sketches or whatever and the gurus here will provide lots of valuable feedback.
