sand vs crushed coral

Hi, propably a dumb question, but which is better? Sand or crushed coral bottom for a marine tank?
My starter tank has got sand in it but I'm moving everything over to my 500L tank in two months, so I'm wondering what would be the best option.

What type of sand? 1-2mm aragonite is nice. Too fine and it gets blown around. Too big and it traps detritus.

I'd rather stick to the beach sand than go crushed coral.

Rather the beach sand. Ive got crushed coral in my nano and it catches a lot of detritus.

i had crushed coral in my previous tank. Not the worst thing to have. But it does require a lot of cleaning and after a while it looks ugly.

Sounds like a plan. Will look into it when i have the time. I am from the old school in that i dont really test my parametres - overflow, skimmer, regular water changes. Having got back into the hobby after years (i think my tank is going well, except for the mini wipeout - think i have discovered the reason why), its interesting how ideas and methodes have changed from 25 years ago - hence me reading all the articles so i can tweak my system here and there.
