    Hi Guys

A while ago I had a DSB with sugar size grains and it was doing great. I could see worms growing in it and all. Now I have a very fine sand and it seems like nothing is growing in it(More than 8 months but with the previous sand it was less than a month where I could see stuff growing). Can sand be too fine for a DSB?

Normally, the finer the sand the better.
Did you seed the DSB? Just a cup of sand from out of an existing healthy DSB or even some substrate?

Ok maybe i should explain from the start.

I had the sugar fine dsb and decided to remove a campartment from my sump to make the dsb bigger. So it was 50mm which was not enough after the bigger space. I then went and bought finer sand and topped it up to about 120mm. I mixed it with the old sand. I did however spike my mg to about 1800 to get rid of bryopsis. Could that maybe have killed everything? Previously i could see worms and small snails growing. Now it just looks dirty.

Should have lifted the old sand out, added the new sand and put the old sand on top. But now too late. Next time.

Seed your DSB. Help it a bit. Lifeforms cannot simply appear. Piece of liverock will help.
