    Hey guys

Just wanted to find out something. I'm starting a new nano setup, and I have oolite sand from a previous setup, that's been sitting in a sealed 20 litre bucket with some left over water for about 8 months (since I put it in the bucket).

Is it cool to use this for the new setup, or should I look at getting 'fresh' oolite sand?

My question is mainly in regard to anything to do with phosphate leaching or that it could be bad in some way having sat in a bucket with a bit of water for 8 months that I don't know about. To my common sense it should be fine. I'm not looking for it to be live or anything, just don't want to have to spend another R400 on sand if don't need to :)

    Thanks!

    Daniel

I would run it in a tank with flow so and turned a few times to allow die off to be rid of.

If you don't read ammonia, nitrite, phosphate etc. You should be good to go. IMO

The sand is pretty clean (no die off etc, will clean before using tho), but wanted to find out if there is any harm that I dont know about in it being kept in a bucket moist for 8 months?

    Thanks

    Daniel

would rinse it, to get rid of old detritus. Then let it cycle just like the new liverock.
