Is this rust? It's a Atman reactor,

As you can see there is carbon stuck to it, tried soaking it in vinegar but didn't help

Doubt it, it's hard and some of the carbon is stuck to it

I dont seem to understand that pic. Doest it fit over the impeller, where if the shaft rusts, it could leach down?

    Looks like rust to me.
Dont think that small amount we can see in the pic is a problem.
I'd be more concerned with where did it come from and is there more I dont know about !

cant be from the media dude....all coco nut shell activated carbon,
chances are if its in the unit and grew only there it came from somewhere like a drill filing or something......if it was from the media.....the rust would be growing in the tubing, , sides of housing, everywhere and if you placed a magnet on the media it would pick the filings up.......just random checked 10 bags from last batch...all fine...so i doubt its the media.......look elsewhere......like the pump shaft and impellor that feeds the reactor........pretty sure it comes from there and got stuck in the reactor......as the waterflow in that water chamber flows from bottom up....(water comes in the side of the chamber, makes it way down , enters at the bottom through the media and out the top side)......

also i would suggest mods take a look at posts like this and maybe have them directed to sponsers mentioned instantly as claims / advise queries like these could be damaging to product reputations.....

if i did not decide to read this thread that was not directed at us, how could we respond and give advice?

just a thought for future ....thanks

Sorry Marco, shouldn't have mentioned what media it was as I didn't suspect it was causing it. Have edited it out.

Will inspect the pump, but very weird how it has stuck to the plastic. I soaked it in acid for 10 minutes and most of it has gone now.
