Hi team,
It seems this LED has the right size specs for fitting into the T5 compartment in the hood possibly without any modding.Size wise it looks like it would be as close to perfect as i have found so far. 760x160x40......160mm is the "inside of the seal" width of the perspex T5 shield on the rsm250.
Would anyone here have slotted one in already & have any opinions on it vrs the t5's ?

Looks like i'm going to be the guinea pig?
Lumen from who manufactures the light is 10,000 lm - like to see that higher but its the same amount as the Zetlight 6600 anyway but it will fit inside the hood.
Lets see!

lol, guess you are :)
Please keep us posted with updates with this build. I am also considering modifying the hood but have difficulty with the light selection and the actual taking apart of the hood itself...

Will do.....
my plan in mind is to just remove the t5 bulbs & insert it onto the inside face of the rsm clear perpex T5 cover & depending on how sealed the unit looks to cut out a rectangle out of the rsm clear cover around the outside of the leds & seal it again around that rectangle cut out.
Room left at the top will do for cooling with the original hood fans running + the units fans.
For program adjusting i'm thinking that should be able to be done via the remote pointed by the right side fan vents on the hood.
That's the plan, will have to see if that's going to work out once i get it & get time to do it.

Looking forward to seeing how this goes, might want to mod my rsm as well.

Good luck! Expecting loads of pics. :tt2:

Heading offshore,be back in 3 weeks,it should be here by then...if anyone looking in has a Seneye reef unit they want to sell let know please, want to do some light readings before i pull the t 5's out

I brought a Seneye to take some light readings before i pulled the T5's but after a day of failing to get that to work properly i've gone ahead & put the LED in anyway.
It fits! - The power cable whilst it could be done more hidden ways can be squeezed between the vent slots of the hood fans.
The LCD is hard to see with the other side fan vent cover on but if you remove that you can see pretty easy......remote works fine just pointed at the lcd panel area.Once i've finished monkeying around with it i'll just put that cover back on.
Temp with the unit running 100%/100% got to 40C without the RSM hood fans running.....Once i turned the hood fans on temps never really decreased much anyway....removing the t5 tube holders would probably help airflow.
By eye it doesn't look to me to be much more or less brightness differance than the t5's but thats a fairly large thumbsuck,I'd like to have been able to do the tests but that never worked out.
Best part is nothing needed to be bent, broken, cut, drilled or otherwise

We at secondwave have a couple of seneye units available at R1000

Ok thanks - I did ask previously in the sponsor request thread but never got any replies but thanks anyway....Maybe my ones just a lemon but for me its the worst piece of kit i've had the displeasure of trying to get working on a PC EVER, i 'm wanting to return it.

That is awesome to hear! I want to go this route but the thought of having to cut/drill etc was putting me off. Hopefully next year I can add LEDs to my tank as well (need to save up first) :)

I don't really know how much to put in this but i'll share it anyway.
This is PAR/LUX readings done with a Seneye unit(don't know how accurate they are,but it should be relative at least)
The LED is the Aquabeauty 140W that is sitting inside the T5 compartment of the RSM 250 - It is also having to throw light thru the original 2mm perpex lightcover that keeps the compartment waterproof.

The T5's were used for about 3.5 months before i put the LED unit in.
They are 6 x 1 for 1 Aqua Medic 39W Reef White 15000 and Red Sea 39W Reef Spec Actinic's

Excuse my tank state - busy fighting a nitrate bombshell from a dud test kit,my 0.75 ppm NO3 turned into something between 60-100ppm

I actually thought the T5's were going to make the LED look stupid - doesn't seem so altho they aren't brand new T5's either.....Don't ask me how growth seems cos my No3 is only back to a little over 30ppm still v:)

Guys i was thinking a bit - this seneye unit i'm not going to be using it for what it's meant for(tank alerts), i only wanted it for getting some light reading comparision & now its mostly going to just sit around gathering dust.
If any of you can make use of it & are happy to pay for shipping to & back to me your welcome to borrow it.

You would need something like a laptop that you can put beside the tank, the unit plugs in by usb,PC seems to need internet at the same time,or it does at least to be initially recognized as a version that will open the light meter function.

I got it 2nd hand at a good price so if some skelm burns me its not going to be the end of the world.
Be nice to see some more test examples, Any interest just let me know

Hey Bud, Firstly, thank you very much for the offer, I have been deciding whether or not to buy one of these and would love to try this unit out, I am down in Durban over December and would like to play around a bit with my new RSM tank. I'd happily send the unit back to you whenever you need it and I am up and down a lot anyway. Will pop you a pm. :)

Hi @2una,

Please PM me your contact details. I need more info re Aquabeauty.

If the Zetlights readings are way too low compared to the T5's, I will do what you did after you have confirmed that your corals are all happy. What did the light unit set you back if you don't mind me asking?
