    Hello everyone,
I searched all over the forum and didn't find a complete post which helps RSM owners for upgrading the skimmer to tunze 9002. Since i've purchased the tunze reefpack 200 recently and i'm planning to change my filtration system,i've started this thread, to help the people who want to upgrade their system, but they're not sure how it will work, and also to ask members advice,
A typical RSM 130D filtration system is like this:

Where water overflows form point (1) into the filtration unit, and runs through the sponge and skimmer and overflows from point 6 into the filtration mediums and goes back from the point (9) into the main tank,
My setup however has all the filtration mediums on point(2),
And point 4, is where the bioballs are, and point 8 & 7 are replaced with crushed liverocks,
i've created and image of how i want to make the changes and replace the skimmer with the Tunze one with minimum changes to the original setup of the tank (sorry for the crap pic:blush:)

As you can see in the picture water enters the container from over flow point, and the skimmer is on the right hand side and the filters on left(reefpack owners know why i've placed the skimmer and filters like this, because its the only way you can use the magnet holders using the filter unit walls)
and the water over flows to the filtration medium and returns using the 2 return pumps to the tank.
I'm having the crushed live rocks and the bioballs at the bottom of the filtration unit, maybe i'll move the ceramics to there as well,
and all the filtration mediums like charcoal , purigen, phosguard, are moved to the left hand side, and i'm having the micro wadding in the tunze filter 3165.

Ok, thats all i can think of now,
Please think about the setup and give me your thoughts, its much appreciated :1:

    Have a nice christmas;)

I'm not familiar with this system but it looks like it should work, I would be a bit concerned about detritus buildup at the bottom underneath the bioballs and live rock rubble, are you able to access that area easily to clean it out occasionally?

Have you made any of these changes already? If not then have you considered other options? There are loads of threads and youtube videos on the net about mods that have been done to the RSM tanks, some to the skimmer as well.

I agree with you regarding detritus, the Tunze filter has a return pump which you can adjust the direction, what i've done is that the director head is been turned toward the bio balls and live rocks, So when it cleans the water ,it pumps it back to the the bottom of the container, so that it makes a little bit of flow at the bottom of the tank.

But i tried looking for an other options, but didn't succeed, Will look around further.

Thanks for the advice anyways. :)

I'm thinking of making an upgrade cup for the Tunze skimmer, It doesn't look so difficult,
Any ideas where i can buy the plastic material in CPT?

    Hi

I found a small company in M-Gardens that will supply (any small size) and lazer cut it for you from a plan.

I am sure that (for a small fee) they would even design the plan them selves and glue it for you.

See the start of my thread for what they have done for my tank.

Hi, I would skip the crushed live rock if you haven't already done it. It just collects crap and is impossible to clean, I just pulled mine out of my RSM250, took forever to pull the detritus out of the back that accumulated
