    Hi all

So im looking at prices for a RO system.

i want to know can you buy a RO system that you get by built it?

because the prices differ like R1000 for "marine" RO's

    thanks in advance.

My buddy said build it sells them for like +-R600.

and on marine online shops they go for like +-R1700.

so is there a difference or not?

    will check with thewaterboy

    thanks

i think the main difference would be how many stages is the unit and is it rated for 0 TDS output like most marine units are... a domestic RO machine will not necessarily give you as pure water as required by the marine tank

Are we talking about the same item here? A RO unit? What im asking is do the units look identical. I know household RO units sometime use copper in the filters and this isnt good for a marine system.

perhaps post a pic so we can advise better.

The RO machines at Built It are simple water purifiers for household usage.
Proper Marine RO machine have different membranes specially designed for removing unwanted toxins for aquarium use. @TheWaterboy will sort you out at a good price!

All an Ro unit is, is 1. Membrane, 2. Sediment filter, 3. Carbon block.

If you want an RO/DI unit then you would have items 1,2,3, as well as De-ionising resin this is the best and will give you 0 TDS.

An RO/DI unit should cost R1600+ from a marine shop,

There are guys like you friend who are putting these together with the stage 4 (De-ionising) for just under R1000.00 and have been getting great success as well as a reading of 0 TDS.

One well respected reefer in JHB that we all know and love is using such a unit.

I say if you have a buddy who can do it, do for it.

the most expensive part is the Filmtek membrane. The other filters are cheap in relation.

How long can you store RO water? Would it last a month in a air tight container? Does anyone store salt water?
