    Hi Guys,
I've have been given a 4 stage RO unit, that had been lying around!
it was in pieces when I got it and had to replace the base plate and ALL canisters!
    including membrane!
My only hastle is I've put it back together and am unsure of all the hosing???
From the pics you can see the inlet on the left out let on the right! but what is the small box floating in the middle with all the black hoses!? My thoughts are it must have been for a top up unit or something...
I just need help configuring it please guys?

That's an auto shut-off valve, used in auto top-ups, but preferably needs to be run with a check valve to protect the membrane.

Yeah you can toss it. I'm just trying to figure out the rest of the tubing, that other long cigar shaped thing joining the blue and white tubing looks like a waste flow restrictor, which needs to go on the waste outlet of your membrane.

Have the 3 filter units got the words IN and OUT on top of them?

Dont think I saw In/out wording, but I will check this afternoon!
The white thingy is the waste outlet!

Yes, it should have an arrow on it indicating the direction of the water flow, this goes on the 'waste' outlet from your membrane (the housing on the top), you will see the membrane housing has two outlets close together, one of them is the waste, which is where it goes. Where it is now is wrong.

Will make those changes! ... had a look at the waste thing and there wasn't a direction on it! obviously worn off or something! I'll take a closer pic of that later!
I'll also take a pic of once I've removed the auto, coz there are gonna be pipes that have to go somewhere:whistling:
Please check the thread this evening or tomorrow to see if I'm right.
    Thanks B

Here's a highly sophisticated diagram of how it's done.

If I recall correctly. the red fitting on the membrane is your waste outlet and the white one will be your RO outlet.

Move the restrictor valve and the white and blue tubing to the red fitting on the membrane.

So from the cold water tap, your water goes into housing 1, then out of housing 1 and into housing 2, then out of housing 2 and into 3, then out of 3 and up and into the left side of the membrane. You are then left with 2 outlets, one of them (I'm sure it will be the red one) will gush out water - that will be your waste, which you then connect up the restrictor valve onto, the other outlet from the membrane will trickle out slowly, that will be your RO water.

You will have to try and work out which is the inlet and outlets on the front and backs of the 3 housings.

Hi, not to hijack this thread as its related to ro setup. My question is related to tds reading, what is the maximum reading for tds before changing the ro membrane? Its my understanding that its best to use water below 10ppm, what is the gurus say?

    Highly sophisticated, AND accurate

Just check one thing... the RO water comes from the more center of the two outlets on the membrane housing, the waste water comes from the outer of the two fittings.

As a final "eyeball" check, the quantity of water from the RO side should be approximately 25% - 30% of that flowing from the waste outlet.

As a final check, measure the TDS of both outlets...

I change my membrane when the TDS reads 7. With a new membrane, the reading is usually lower than 3, depending on the input water quality. When using a final DI stage, of course, the reading should be zero, and one would change the resin if the reading becomes positive.
