Some background: I kept freshwater fish for 15 Years. Always wanted to switch over to marines. What kept me for years from switching over was Marine Ich. Freshwater is so much easier, acclimatize over 30 min. Observe.. If they scratch add Protozine on day 1,2,4. Done!

However the LFS stock all these nice marine fish..... One can only resist so long. So yes after two years of walking into the marine area whenever I visit the LFS to buy fresh water stuff I caved in and joint this forum.

After reading for about 2 weeks (and no you guys and the few girls don't help to get one out of this hobby) I ordered a 1.5 tank from Idol.

I planned on waiting 6 weeks, it ended up waiting a very long 7 weeks, then the call arrived that my tank is ready.

What a job to move it!

I was prepared I had salt and 500L of RO water waiting. Plasticland made some money during my long wait.

Tank was wet at 2330 the same day that I fetched it.

    Tank still in the workshop.

I ordered it with the skimmer, reactor, return pump and the sump.

The lights and the started fish.

I bought 2 green Chromis as starter fish, because they are supper tough according to LFS, about 3 weeks before the main tank arrived.

It did not stay two for long.... A Royal Gramma and Citrinis Clown Goby joint them in the quarantine tank for 4 weeks. (The fear of Marine Ich is still with me)

Now that the main tank is here I am waiting to get it cycled. Base rock and live rock was added a day after the tank arrived.

Researching lights: Led was an obvious choice for me.

Three LED lights made the short list. namely> Radion Pro, Razors and (the not yet available in RSA) GHL Mitras.

In the end it was a purely cost decision. I would have needed 3 Radion due to the length of the tank or two 160W Razors. So it was the Razors.

To mount the lights I did not want drill into my newly replaced ceiling so I build a wooden support from Maranti wood and stained it black. This support hangs about 70 cm above the top of the tank.

The main tanked cycled in 14 days.

I dosed it with Special blend and Nite out II.

So the fish was in quarantine for 5 weeks and they are all healthy and eat and no detectable Ich or velvet.

So I added the fish to the main tank expecting no issues.

8 Days later: The Royal Gramma start to flash. I spot these this from a distance and the corner of my eye, due to all the years of fresh water fish keeping.

I Just could not believe it. It did it according to the book. Then it hit me. The live rock was only without fish for 14 days. I have ICH in my tank and it came via the live rock.

Here is a photo before I took all the fish out and put them in hypo salinity.

Tank will stay fish free for 6 weeks.

If there is one thing you will learn with marines is that there is nothing like patience...no rushing things...but humans will be in a hurry!

Don't rush...relax sit back and let the cycle take its course while you plan your next phase.

If you do rush then there is bound to be a crash @ some point (crash being stress/ disease / instability).
