Also height from your return pump to your DT?
Is it a single return line or does it feed 2+ outputs to your DT?

assuming this is just a single return to the top of tank with nothing fancy plumbed to it and the outlet diameter is 32mm (25mm ID) a pump of 2000 - 2500lph will be suffiecient, make sure you minimise the amount of elbows / 90 degree bends which will add pressure to the head hight the pump can push..

the smoother the line the better the flow to the DT..

im busy with almost the excat same size for a friend and hes going with a 2500lph..

was filtration option did you decide on?
If DSB, you need good flow across. Sump at 450mm wide, you need a pump that at least delivers 3000L/h into the display, after taking head loss and friction into account.

    Hi Riaan

After checking all the costs im more leaning to DSB.

Will any 3000L/h do or are there certain ones to stay away from?

Look into DC pumps. Lower energy consumption and they can be controlled.

Any pump, as long as it delivers into the tank at least 3000L/h. Maybe go slightly bigger, 3500 to 4000. So looking at pumps with ratings of at least 4000L/h and up, depending on the head height and elbows.

Just note that DC pumps do not like back pressure. Actually its their feature. Throttle the outlet and it slows down and uses less power. Kind of a feature. But not if you want maximum flow. So keep elbows at a minimum.

But yes, the DC pumps do use less power than AC.
But got more things to tidy up. Extra controller and transformer. Where the AC pumps just plug in.

Did a search on return pumps and saw this discussion. Earlier today the mains tripped twice (earth leakage) and thought it was the chiller.

Got the "shock" of my life and discovered the 2 year old return pump is the problem.

Have to say, being a cowboy and all sticking my hands in to do a quick thing here or there, I am getting myself DC pumps for replacements to ensure I get to enjoy my fishes for a few more years, not having it ending abruptly and prematurely
