They're OK... Ive used them for quite some time & they are quite reliable (probably have 5-6). Havent had any problems so far!
They arent the most energy efficient pump on the market, but not bad at all!

ok great, because i was thinking i can buy a hailea hx 6540 that pumps 2880L/h for R789.00, but i can buy a 2x via aqua pumps for the same prize and get 2100L/h out of each (4200L/h). does that make sence?

mmmm ... Remember to consider the head height of these pumps as well .... Will the via aquas make the climb and the bends to top?

I think its better to have 2 pumps rather than one. Its only logical to asume that some or other time you are going to have trouble (seeing that this game is all about patience), and in that case, if one pump goes there's no problem to take a day or two and find a replacement.
    ;)

If you connect each pump to its own return line, yes.
If you connect them with a t-joint & one fails, the other one will just pump the water oit through the broken one.

In my opinion, its better to have a single pump that can handle the volume (and the height) than 2 pumps that can handle the volume, but not the height.

@cizanie, why dont you ask the petstore if they have the lifetech pumps in stock. They manufacture them from very small up to about 5000l/h & are better priced than the via-aqua ones. (& will probably last longer as well.)
