Has anybody removed their bag of ceramic rings?
I've recently had a Gha outbreak , but couldn't understand why.
I realised the ceramic beads bag was covered in detritus could this be leaching no3 po4?

I removed mine and replaced with matrix stones.
You still need to rinse them out every 2 to three months to prevent detritus from collecting in them however.
Have you changed anything else recently (e.g. feeding routines etc)?

The only thing I've changed is installing a media rack with the new tunze skimmer but gha already started.
Otherwise nothing else has changed. My shrimp dissapeared tho:eek: I've searched, maybe the anemone got hold of him.

The media rack is definitely an awesome addition, I also admire your DIY skills!
    How bad is the GHA?
What is the stock levels, feeding routines and NO3 and PO4 readings (if any)?

    Thanks;)
I feed half a cube of thawed out frozen food every second day.
Then 1 week I add the prodibio reef vials the next week I add 2ml marine snow and 2ml zoo plankton twice a week.
Fish I have 1 clown 1 bangai 1 iridis wrasse 1 royal gramma
    no3 po4 undetectable on tests.
Gha isn't bad but def getting worse. Growing amongst bryopsis that I've been battling since day 1.

Hey @ricky, imo those ceramic rings is a detritus trap. I took mine out as soon as I added a sump to my boyu. How old is your tank now, stock levels, water circulation in the dt?

Maybe cut out the coral foods for now. Unless you are running a low nutrient system or have nps corals I wouldn't bother feeding the corals (might have an impact on your flame scallop though).
You could try carbon dosing like nopox/vinegar or using cubes to suck out the extra nutrients.

Rather get the parameters measured and go from there, to try and dose nopox on a thumbsuck could cost you dearly.
What you could do on a thumbsuck though is add a bag of biocubes with an airstone in that chamber you removing the bio balls from, that can work.

Go with the lowest dose recommended and increase as you start registering readings. Make sure you test weekly and have the skimmer on ;)

Hey Verndog. I got the skimmer from Anita here who is a sponsor. The rack was diy. Just got the pieces cut to size and i glued them together.

Does the skimmer cup fit into the back of the RSM 130 ? I saw allot of guys abroad use custom made skimmer cups. I was worried that the skimmer won't fit properly.

Yes the tunze 9001 fits with plenty space. The 9002 needs a custom cup.

Ok so if I do take out the ceramic rings can I take them out all at once? Or take them out slowly over time?

Do it slowly. It will give your existing media a chance to develop to handle the extra load.

OK Tx. When you say existing media, do you mean LR?

Yup. Or if you are adding any new media (eg matrix/cubes etc) it also gives it time to build up a bacterial population.
