My Regal tang (had him for +- 1 year) recently started nipping on my colony of green zoas. It's at a point now that only one or two polyps are visually open. I've witnessed the regal taking a bite out of an open zoa (with the zoa spitting out liquid shit)

Any advise ? He's starting to nip on my purple zoas as well now.

Going to have to choose between the fish and coral. Once a fish gets a taste for a certain coral theres no way of stopping it.

Not quite true...I will explain below ;)

Ok, I had the same issue with my Regal Tang...he totally decimated every zoa colony I had at one point last year, I did manage stop him tearing them up more by moving them higher up the rockwork, I read this in an article written about how to stop angels nipping zoanthids and it seems to work with the Regal Tang as well. I also try and place them inbetween other corals and near powerheads and areas that are awkward for him to get to...remember he is more than likely not eating them because they are food, but because he is bored and looking for something to amuse himself...tearing up your zoas just happens to be his entertainment at the moment.

Yip, my Purple Tang tears pieces off my star polyp colonies now and then...and who said there wasnt a natural remedy to curb their growth. :p

I have a clown that recently started ripping off the polyps from my yellow birds nest coral, not eating it just ripping the tissue and polyps

Anyone got an artical on how to entertain your tang ? :p

My tanks a bit packed at the moment. Moving the zoas to a less convenient location's gonna be hard. I'm struggling just to keep the chemical warfare at bay.
    Hmm.. time to get wet

I read u can put a ball ontop of the water and it will actually move it around and play with it :p

They do get bored when they get big, this is a common problem with Regal Tangs...mine likes to rearrange my corals that arent stuck down...I find items all over the place sometimes...god help me if I place a frag on the substrate

hmmmm id be careful of that, it can cause him to get aggressive towards his reflection especially if big and he may well injure or stress himself and the rest of the tank. id do that at a very last resort IMHO

thats the idea.. :tt2: obviously monitor the fish and controll what is happening but it may shake him a little into forgetting what he was doing before..

its not an exact science but something worth considering;).
