They do come along now and then, but are usually gone very fast.

Is shipping included on duties. Example if I order two refractometers. Will I then pay import duties?

If it is more than USD50 then yes.
The post office will charge you something like R60 on duties for it...

Just ensure that you do get the RIGHT refractometer. There are many different ones, from measuring sugar content, alcohol levels, salt etc.... even on the salt types, you get different ones. I got one for you for free that I got from a guy breaking down ... (clue - it is useless)

suggest to rather get the one from your local LFS that you know is the right one.

If you buy the one in the link you wont have a problem.
Got mine from them and works and looks identical to the ones they sell at the LFS.

Picked up my refractometer today. Worked out about R350 in total. Worth the 2 week wait. Thanks @Quintin

Is there a MASA member residing along the coast who also owns the above mentiond unit from gainexpress.com?

I have devised a simple test for us to measure its accuracy.

Should be interesting and very easy.

We just need a source of NSW, aquarium water and this above mentioned unit to determine what the different readings are.

@Quintin perhaps if you know of someone in your area who owns a D-D unit you can compare the readings from same sample water. Assuming both calibrated correctly prior to test. This will give us some sort of idea.

The units are identical to the D-D units.
In fact they come from the same factory in China just with a different branding.
    Why the 20 questions?

Why don't you ask @Wynie what he thinks of the refractometer?

But by all means; go and pay 3 times the price if you prefer a different branding on the identical item. ;)

You can even ask @Seahorse what he thinks of it as I gave him one of my spares....
So you say USD 22.90 (R231.35) is expensive for an item that most LFS sell for about R1000 is expensive?

@jclaas. Im very happy with mine. I calibrated it with ro water to 0 and it shows correct. I also have a bobbing refractometer in the tank to compare it to. I compared them in the beginning just to be certain, but dont anymore
