Hi Guys

i am busy cycling my tank

i got the TS2 new but without its box / instructions...

I have LR in the tank and the DSB setup and ready ...

So here is the problem.... The skimmer is on the bottom of the sump, the H2O level sits at the bottom of the reeftek badge o the side of the cylinder .... But the skimmer is overskimming,.......

I have tried pinching off the airflow but it just underskims or overskims...... As i dont have the instructions on how to adjust i am lost as to what to do....

should i move the entire setup higher up in the water colume????

Thanks

That would help, it may just be over skimming because of the die off on the rock at the moment.

thanks Alan,

i was doing more research on the net and see that the outlet pipe height is adjustable....... i changed the height and this seems to have solved the problem.... (those little things called instrustions can be helpfull sometimes)....

thanks anyway !

Don't change the skimmer height. That black outlet pipe is what you use to adjust the skimmer. Just slide it up or down until you get the type of skimmate you want, bear in mind a brand new skimmer can take 3 or 4 days to settle in before it starts skimming properly, then further adjustments will probably be needed.

My 1st TS2 took nearly 3 weeks to "run in" and produce decent skimmate. My second TS2 within 3 days....

So yeah - be patient.... It takes time to adjust the skimmer to run perdectly with YOUR setup.
No matter how anyone else's is set-up....

When you say overskimming,as soon as you switch the skimmer on,the water just pours out of the neck into the collection cup and then starts pouring out of the skimmer?

Thanks guys..

Ja Mekaeel, thats what was happening .... i adjusted the height of the black outlet pipe, and it is much better..... but still fluctuates a lot.... seems it needs the "run in period" ..... Last night i thought i had it perfect but this morning the cup was 2mm away from being completely filled ! ..... I guess like everything in this game patience is the key ....

I sit next to it and ajust the pipe.... and just when the bubbles are popping on the rip of the cup (what i assume is the optimal position... is this assumption correct???) i leave it..... an hour later and the cup is either completely full or the "bubble popping" level has dropped to an inch or so below the cup rim..... is this explained by the running in period?

Mekaeel, I followed your advice and lifted the entire skimmer by 5cm or so......

Is it weird that i was super excited that the skimmer started to work properly last night..... SWAMBO thought so .....

So in the end it seems that it took 5 days for it to run in .... I took some pics on my phone but they are shit ... will take some tonight again

thanks Mek,

I am just struggling to find eggcrate in my area..... Have asked almost every harware store i know and they all have the standard what the %$&$ are you on about look as a reply!

The specialist plastic shops are out of my way but i guess i may have to make a special trip and get some asap ... there was an address in the DIY forum i think!

i have not found a lighting shop in jhb that stocks eggcrate. But they will get on special order

Just a wee update on this thread .....

I managed to FINALLY get some egg crate and make a propper stand for the skimmer.

Aslo thanks to the DIY forum and Geofery in particular, i have recently implemented a auto topup system (a total of R97 odd)..... the impact of having a regulated water surface (such that there is no fluctuation in the water level) seems in my experience to be one of the most important factors in setting ones skimmer ..... so for those battling with their skimmer..... make sure you have an auto topup system in place and it will help with setting your skimmer BIG time !!!
