Now and then I hear of something reefing related that is going to be on TV or I have seen something on TV that I would like to share with you.

This coming Monday, there is going to be an interview with Paul Watson on 50/50 on SABC 2. Thought you might be interested in what he has to say.

Please feel free to announce anything reefing related that we can check on TV on this thread.

On what channel is Tanked and what days and time?

It's on channel Internet, all the time.....

Any idea whether this is actually 50/50 and Paul Watson in the same room, or a replay of the interview he did as an end to this year's Whale Wars?

I just went though Viper's whole thread and it does not seem to be in SA yet. As soon as I get any info about it showing in SA, I would post it here.

Also done a search in the DSTV guide on there website and no results for Tanked.

Read more about the show here:

Who watched National Geographic in SABC 3 yesterday at 18:00? I was about all animals in general. What I found great was the pistol shrimp with the shrimp goby. It's amazing how they interact.

Just last week the LFS said he is going to set a pistol shrimp and goby up as a display on the counter. I now also want a pair. How deep should the substrate be? Would normal aragonite work?

Who watched National Geographic in SABC 3 yesterday at 18:00? It was about freaks of the sea. Very interesting to see about sea dragons, frogfish, lionfish, sea horses, nudibraches, Transkei squid, devil scorpion fish, etc.

That said that the sand ray makes use of bacteria to help shock there pray. Normally when I feed my fish, I put my finger tips in the tank so that the flakes do not stay just at the top. Then I get shocked sometimes. Can this be because of the bacteria? What are your views?

I found the nudibraches very interesting. They are the most colourful creatures in the sea. Can a person keep them in a tank?

Have you heard about the lionfish that was kept in a tank? Then after a storm, 6 landed in the sea and became a pest in that specific sea, killing a lot of live.

It's electricity "leaking" from an old pump/heater/... definitely not bacteria.

Yes, provided you have the correct foods growing in your tanks for the to graze on, they are VERY specific as to what they eat, with the more colourful ones generally have a single type of sponge/anemone that they live off. The herbivorous ones are easier to keep but a LOT of research is required to get their correct food items thriving BEFORE you collect them....

This is Pterois volitans (which is often confused with our local common lionfish - P. miles) and there are MANY recipes on the net for preparing them as an incentive to eliminate them from the south eastern USA. There are also many spearing compos to try to wipe them out.

Another speared fish - no points to the person who guesses the show (best episode EVER by the way).
