My first exposure to the ReefAngel controller was reading about it on the Net. The product had many rave reviews with really not one thing bad to be said about it. The obvious reason why I did not buy it was due to it being and overseas product.
Dropreef became a supplier and I was first to jump on the bandwagon. I order the unit and it arrived a lot faster than I anticipated.

First impression:

A very nice unit. The installation was simple - just download the manual from the internet. Build quality is excellent and everything worked when I plugged it in. It comes with preloaded code and to me it was not of any use as my system was very different to their standard. Most people's systems should be fine.

Setting it up

I first used to RAG (Reef Angel Generator) to write my first ino file (The program file it uploads to the unit) After looking at the arduino file, I started making my own custom menus and coded my own LCD screen customizations using the Arduino Reef Angel IDE! It was as easy as that.
ATU – The auto top-up feature is awesome and works very well.
I use three of the ports for my Actinics, MH and White T5’s.
One power port is used for my heater and I also use the controller as a temperature controller.
I also control my return pump with the unit for waterchanges.
I have a delayed start on one of the ports for my Skimmer which is external so after a powerfailure, it allows the skimmer to get full first before starting!

Cool Features

Overheat protection – Protects your tank from overheating by disabling power ports of heat generating devices eg heater and MH/T5 (You configure that yourself)
ATU – Timeout
A fail safe that if the pump runs continuously for whatever reason, it stops to prevent and overflow. A very nice safety check !
Cool screen customization options and the sky is the limit on this unit.

Not so cool features

American plugs – The unit comes with them and you have to get adapters to make the capable of taking the European 2 pin adapters.

Conclusion

Great product overall and I give it a 10/10!

PS I will post my Screen and Source code soon !

I totally agree this is a awsome product, I've been running the Reef Angel on my tank now for all most a year now and I'm really happy with it. I took the chance and bought mine over the net with great support from Roberto.

Your review sums it up perfectly! Although I must add that the wifi addon is a MUST! Being able to switch things on and off from anywhere in the world is awesome! There are apps for both Apple and Android that really take this controller to the next level.

One downside I've found is the USB power connector for the device. It's a little cable that allows you to power the unit directly from USB for when you are uploading codes to the unit and you haven't got a power supply nearby. Mine snapped the first time I tried to remove it from the Reef Angel unit. Nothing a little bit of solder couldn't fix though :)

It would also be nice if they supplied the stuff to calibrate the PH probe BUT again thats a small issue that a trip to your LFS can solve :)

If you have the time and the patience there is a wealth of knowledge on the coding on the Reef Angel forums and the guys are really quick at troubleshooting your code if you upload to see.

I initially bought the standard pack and have already placed an order for 2 more temp probes, the salinity probe, the moonlight (cause you just have to have one!) and an extra PWM expansion pack :)

I agree, USB cable is a bit bad, myne also required some soldering.

Th pH fluid will soon be on our product list, in 50ml bottles for very cheap (estimated about R15 a bottle)

The US power points are a bit of an issue, but most new things come with the 2 pron plugs, then the us-sa 2 pron from ACDC is easy. I have asked if we cannot make relay boxes for SA, and Reef Angel was a bit reluctant. I will have to send him te sockets, he will then build and send units back to us, so the R8 for the ACDC is a better option.

You made me all interrested now, post your screens! :p

I must agree on that!!!!! I so regret not getting the wifi module. there is a usb client you can download!

I will write up a review when i have my unit functioning too :)

Its really not that difficult to code either, all the stuff is pretty self explanatory, and the guides and reefangel forum are a invaluable resource!
