24-26 degrees C spot on belindamotion. I like the warmer waters so keep mine at 26. Try not to exceed 28 inverts are sensitive if planning on keeping some

Most of Indonesia averages around 28-30 in shallow water. Quite a lot of corals and fish we get are from 40-60m though, where temps can go right down to 22-23 or less. Somewhere in the middle is usually best, though most livestock can tolerate quite a bit of variance throughout those ranges.

Just want to jump in here. I see that my temp varies between say 23 - 27 at times . I have a 130l Boyal TL550 tank. Is this normal and what causes the big change of temp?

Zandy - the water temp in the sea (tropical/warm oceans) also vary between night and day, winter and summer. The problems come when these temp ranges happen too quickly.

Temperature changes are normally caused by the ambient temperature of the room. So get pushed to 27 (or higher) if the room temperature is high. If it becomes too hot, then you need a chiller to reduce the temperture.

On the lower side is again caused when room temperature falls (e.g. at night) and your heater takes time to catch up after it is switched on. If your temp falls too low or stays too low at night it is time for a stronger heater.

My tanks winter temperature is 26 and summer is 25 - 25.5 degrees. (in case of a power outage I have a bigger margain to work with before the temp becomes critical (high or low).

Also had this with my boyu. I solved it by putting 2 fans in the hood now the temperature stays between 25 and 26 most time.
