    mix feelings regarding plastics..does this fall in the same category as playsand ? leeching..ect..

    Playsand is inert.
    Meaning, it does not leech anything.
    Unless you did not wash it properly.
    But still, it is not the sand leeching, it is dirt in between.

    Anyway, interesting link.

    Warming up food in polystyrene type take away containers is a big no-no. It releases estrogen which lowers a man's fertility... So if you want to be a grandparent one day, do not stick your son's take away into the microwave to reheat!

    the playsand will not always leach silica into the water column, BUT there will be enough mechanical grinding going around between the sand bits to break off bits small enough that diatoms can use. if using silica playsand, it has to be rinsed to within an inch of its life in order to keep these fines from getting into the system.
