We purchased a Reef Octopus Hang on Back Protein Skimmer BH-2000 last week and installed it on Monday. what im finding is if i allow the air to run using the silencer (free flow air) we get lots of micro bubbles in the tank, the instruction manual says to use the bubble stopper sponge but its not helping, the only way is to turn the air off completely but i dont think its skimming anything then! do the bubbles need to be in the skimmer for it to actually do its job? if so then how can i reduce the amount of micro bubbles getting back into the tank from the out flow!

here is a link to the manual for the skimmer.

The skimmer most definately needs air to operate properly. When did you install the skimmer?

Monday, the first day i ran it full air and had to clean out that afternoon, my brother then turned the air down cause of the micro bubbles and there's no more bubbles, but i dont think its skimming anymore either!

Are you able to set the water level in the neck of the skimmer ?

not sure what the "neck" of the skimmer is, but i dont think you can set water levels. i dont see any sdjuster that would allow that?

    3. Adjust the water outlet, so that the bubble stopper comes out a little bit from surface.

I would think that this would be the step that allows you adjustment.

If you look at where the bubbles come out into the collection cup you should be able to control the water level below where the bubbles are.

you can only go down as far as the pipe, the pipe stops it after that, would you want it higher?

The higher the water level the wetter it should skim. You done want to be emptying the cup every day but I would play around with that setting. If its the first time tiy have a skimmer in your tank it may take a while for the skimmer to settle down.

I would do that and see if there is a difference in bubble density in the reaction chamber.

I think just leave it a few days and you should se a clearing in the lower part of the chamber then it should be fine. Perhaps try run it wetter for a while.
