record Anthias ID NEEDED

    Could someone please id this fish.... I know it looks like an Anthias, but I do not think they get this big. Yes, it is from our local waters...

    You should have answered the first time when you saw it....lol. Still dunno what it is though?

    I saw one in the rsd mag once and another on fb a while ago. Lovley fish what was it caught on?

    Les, a while ago as in yesterday when i posted it or another one? Caught on sardine bait. @Lord_Blackadder maybe

    Meganthias natalensis. Very cool. These are actually fairly rare to see, though apparently quite common below 100m. Did you preserve the specimen? ORI/DIFS might be interested. Very nice pic too...you should submit it to Fishbase. Meganthias natalensis, Gorgeous swallowtail : fisheries

    People forget that anthias are in the same family as groupers (Serranidae). :p
