I just saw my hermits chow something and it looked like my mantis's skin and thought he molted. On closer inspection I saw the tail end is NOT empty and took it out the tank. It was still full of meat....my beloved little Rocky is dead :(
I don't know why or how he died as all the other inverts are fine, roaming around and eating.

    Inverts are

    Coral bandid shrimp
    Few hermits
    Small black sea cucumber
    3 small pistol shrimps

The pistols and mantis came with the live rock about 8 months ago. They all lived in one tank. There is nothing that could've killed him as the pistols are too small and frankly I don't think the boxing shrimp or the pistols were a match for him. So I'm lost for words.

I hand fed him for the last 8 months every 2nd or 3rd day. I'm so gutted right now :(

    R.I.P. my little friend

Thanks guys, not everyone will understand how we feel if we lose livestock, especially when you grew fond of it. To me it's the same as losing a dog or other pet.

The past 2 weeks I was torn in two about getting a Reef Safe Wrasse...this was just "according to the Info" on Wrasses and still I had my doubts, regarding my Cleaner Shrimp...then this weekend when I went to the LFS all my doubts came back and I actually started crying in my LFS...the thought of my Shrimp getting "torn apart" was to much for me...WOW..hard to believe how attach people can get...I'm an animal lover by nature...I cry over the stupidest things when it comes to animals...and no matter what the "Experts" say about different types of Wrasses...I just couldn't let go of my doubt.......I really do feel you'r loss...mine was just the "thought of it" and that had me in tears..wow I can't even try to imagine what you'r going thru...

I know there are guys that lost their whole tank, so I can imagine how they must feel. But ja, this did hit me hard as he was my pride and joy... A part of the family.

Shame man, Sorry Tobes, Funny how we can get so attached to weird and wonderful creatures. My pet bird flew away once, I was absolutely devastated, he literally eats, drinks and sleeps with me, I felt quite lost when he was gone, like losing a family member, thank goodness he was found and returned. I know exactly how you feeling.
