    Hi all

Question to you all, I have 2 X 220Lt custom 3ft tank’s now I want to setup one as Marine show tank (Fish and Reef) and the other as a sump, Now I have been doing some reading and I believe I need a DSB and a skimmer, now the sump part will be DIY so how easy is it to setup?

The Sump and tank dimensions are
    Sump – 92.5cm L x 45cm W x 39cm deep
    Show tank – 101cm L x 45cm W x 45cm deep.

How should I split the sump and what size skimmer might I need?

    Any advise will be great….:)

    Hi Mavrick.
Check out my tank in my signature. (Slightly bigger than yours.)
    It is 120cm(L) x 45(W) x 45(H)
    Sump is 100cm(L) x 40cm(W) x 50cm(H)
Skimmer is a Reef Octopus ORCA-100
    Hope this helps ;)

Cool. I also have an ATS (Algal Turf Scrubber) and DSB. I added in some Zeolite yesterday in between the DSB and the skimmer compartments. Will take close up pics later and post them here. If you're not sure about algae scrubbers, here's a link to many different designs: Algae Scrubbers • View topic - Misc Scrubber Designs (newest designs are at the end)

Oh yes and WELCOME to the Forum!!!:)

Try to make it as simple as possible if you want to go the DSB route. Make the centre area for the DSB as big as possible. Measure the skimmer footprint and put the first glass close to it - 1st compartment. DSB is 2nd compartment. Put the other glass which is 10-20mm lower than the first one far enough away to acommodate the return pump and maybe other media like carbon - 3rd and or 4th compartment.

You can put some macro algae like cheatomorpha on top of the sand and put a simple energy saver lamp to assist in the growth :)

Wow guys, thanks for the help, but from what I pickup, for now if I have a Skimmer and a nice big DSB I will be okay for now, later on I can maybe look at an ATS, or should i have all of them together?

Yes, that would be all you really need, IF you keep your tank's bio-load reasonably light. If you are going to be stocking very heavily (never a good idea, IMHO), you will need all the additional help you can find...
