    4. Whats the best way to reduce Phosphates, mine is at 0.36?

Aside from the cup cleaning. When you have time and its dirty give it a clean. Over time it may become less efficient as the pump and neck etc get all mucked up. I strip mine and clean it once every 3 months (thats my routine) There is no rule, do what works for you.

Same as above when you feel like it....or the second you notice a drop in perfromance, It sucks when your return pump dies at night and you dont have spares or a spare pump.

What is it you want to achieve? softies? SPS? Sometimes over time with good husbandry this will naturally reduce if your patient?

Why are you adding it in the 1st place? When whatever you added it for needs to be sorted again? What are you using it for?

I clean the cup everytime I empty it...my routine. So no need to server the actual pump

Really just trying to get Phosphates down as I thought that was a good thing. I only have softies and LPS in my tank at the moment. Will the higher Phosphate effect anything?

Once again I thought carbon leads to cleaner water so that's why I added it.

Sounds like I need to understand more why i add these items?

Every now and again yes, look how mucked up (covered in algae etc) the whole skimmer is then judge it. if its a pin wheel they can get blocked by debri and dont function at their prime.

It certainly can at high levels depending on what you have. However If your corals are looking healthy and growing and your not experiencing algae out breaks then you dont really need to be to aggressive at decreasing it. Your softies may not appreciate your water getting "to clean"

Focus on what you putting into your tank via additives for coral food and how much you are feeding your fish. Its easier to control your feeding of the tank than nutrient control after the fact.

I dont use it anymore.....I never really knew what it was doing or why I ever added it in the 1st place, so I stopped useing it. Im not saying it doesnt work.....

Ive read it can help clear water amongst many other positives, but I think I get that without it.

Decide why your useing it so you can monitor the progress and know if your winning or wasting time.

May I ask how does the water get from the skimmer to the return pump? Shouldn't it flow over under? The glass division on your skimmer looks too high for water to flow over.

    Just asking.

I would think that if the bio balls are collecting detrious they will need cleaning. Isnt your live rock in the tank doing basically the same thing as the bio balls? You using them for surface area for bacteria to grow?

Do you need them? are they not just a nutrient trap?

Filter wool needs frequent changing or cleaning, if they collect a lot of "stuff" you may have to change them daily.

The flow is under from the first partition then there is a very small partition that then overflows onto the bio balls and filter media

In terms of the filter floss, I basically have to change it every 2 to 3 days when it goes brown. Which I don't mind. So the question is should I get rid of the bio balls and filter media and add live rock to that chamber?
