Purple Tilefish

Hi Guys,

I bought a few new fish this weekend

Coral beauty, Copperband Butterfly and a Purple Tilefish Goby.

All are in excellent physical condition.

My main concern is with the Purple Tilefish. It was an impulse purchase based on it's exquisite colouring. When I did some more reading up on it when I got home I see that it is a "jumper".

This concerns me cause when I install my new T5 light fitting the tank will be open-top and I am worried that the fish will try jump out.

Is there anything I can try do to prevent this? How high can they jump?

What are your experiences with this beautiful fish?

Can you maybe put some sort of mesh over the tank? I have seen eggcrate suggested but I still think it would block more light than it needs to.

Can you not put a "skirting" of sorts around the top of your tank, just to give it a little more height to prevent a loss?

Well, sure enough it lived up to it's name. Found him dead on the tiles this morning (actually the cat found him)

Won't be getting another.

Shame.
Sometimes a rim such as bracing can do the trick as thet tend to jump from the sides.

The urchins are doing very well thanks. Hardly see them though as they hide under the rocks most of the time

sorry to hear clinton.they are stunning fish,but can bloody jump
