Hi guys does anyone have some purple coralline algae that they are willing to scrape their rocks to sell to me. I bought some real Reef rock and I just started my tank. I want to grind it up and put it into the tank. I have seen this work well before. Thanks.

There are products out there that will assist with speeding up coraline growth. I think its a seachem product.

If your parameters are good, coraline will grow after a few months. Apparently coraline loves actinic light or blue spectrum light so maybe increase that.

Other than that just be patient and enjoy watching your tank evolve.

If you buy any coral frags you will most likely get corraline as a hitchhiker so no need to stress right now if you don't have any. Besides, it eats up ca, mg and alk growing so can be a nuisance :p
And I will personally ban anyone that tries to sell you corraline (should be for free and not for sale).

I'm using the Coralline buffer from red sea but there needs to be corraline available in order for it to grow. My rocks are dead so there is nothing available in my tank

Some people like coralline others hate it. Im one of the haters. Wait untill the stuff starts to grow everywere you dont want it. For instance on pumps etc. It becomes a real pain in the butt to clean. But thats just my view on the stuff. Should actually get stuff that kills it

It's perfectly natural to want too add corraline in the format as asked in the origional post. Scrap g off a fellow reefers system and sprinkling will advance the system and assist in keeping diatoms in check as the corraline will colonise the rock fairly quickly (4-6 weeks spots will be evident of parameters such as alk mag and cal are kept elevated).

The other option is collecting pieces of high quality LR to seed the system.

OK thanks. I don't like using live rock because of the hitch hikers

Is no one willing to help me out with some coralline algae? I'll even pay you for your effort?

You really don't need to buy Caroline algae guys , if you have a lfs close to you with a marine setup , I'm sure they will be happy to give you a scraping off of the glass, if they have in their tanks . It's not something which is generally sold though , as other members pointed out , it can become a pain in the behind ,although for a lot of people , it is worth it once you have growth on the back glass . I'm one of those who is a fan of it ... totally worth a little extra maintenance, can't wait until my new set up is at that point.
