Can you siphon it out with some hard tubing?

Good Luck. Same thing happened to me and it took about six months to get most of it out. Still have a few traces of it left in the sustrate.
Mine was very bad looked like it was snowing in my tank. Almost packed up because of it. I think the best way to get rid of it is the extreme way. You decide - if it had not been winter and I did not have a spare tank I probably would have gone extreme. Dont know if it coincidental but had major algae problems after that - apparently the algae thrives off the stuff the Purigen absorbs - acts like fertiliser? Who knows - thats what I was told.

    HAHA!!! eeeeish!
i knew i wasnt the only one:biggrin: lol.
I know what i need to do. . . after work im gonna drain out and wash the sump first then wash all the rocks and substrate.

I know how to avoid it from getting into the DT (GOD FORBID) this happends again.
Im going to put a membrane cut off a stocking material in the union... Purigen cant get thru that.

Siphon it out into a container with a filter sock to catch the purigen. Place a pump in the container that closely matches the siphon output and switch on once there is enough water to submerge it. This way you can just siphon and the water gets pumped back as fast as you drain it. Siphon until most is gone.

Or siphon into a large container and pump water back once full.

siphoned the most out of the tank, the rest settled between the substrate, but was never an issue
