I have seen guys use sandstone with that design

i assume you will have a square overflow box in the middle?

do i need one or can i just use a pipe?

Interesting design, a pipe in the middle will be fine as long as you can make sure that no fish will get sucked down the pipe or crabs/snails can get in there and block it up.

I disagree, your tank will be far better off with a bigger overflow. A piece of pipe will drain water to the sump but will not be very effective in removing floating partials, settled dust, waist etc.
I would do something like this. (Excuse the quick sketch, no time for cad work)

Or a glass box from top to bottom with the rockwork concealing it.

thanks millepore
I also will be getting the glass sealed by glass fusion so there is no silicone i want to make this as neat as possible
oh what type of coral(lps or softies) could i get for this tank?

thanks i will post as i go
