Help, I have tried everything I can think of to get my skimmer back to normal operation. The last thing I did was add "red slime remover" to the sump in order to address some red slime that was starting in the tank and to help with a couple of rocks that I just picked up that had red algae on them. The issue is that the protein skimmer is skimmer is chugging out bubbles like crazy which is aerating the water (corals do not like this)... It is also pushing bubbles/foam out the top, pushing the lid up. The adjustment that I do have is to raise and lower the output tube, which I have done, but this has not helped. I also clamped the air inlet line to reduce how much air is brought in, this has helped in stopping the bubbles/foam from pushing the top off but I still have too much air coming from the output.... Is this due to the red slime remover? What else can I try? I have run it with air for a day, in hopes that it would clear up, but it has not. Maybe, now that the top is not being pushes off, it can work off the protien and over time will settle down? If this is the case, how much harm will the aerating cause the corals?

I included a pic so you might be able to tell what type of skimmer I have, the lid has 3 shapes, almost like a nuclear image. This is it running normal, right now it's a cloud in that area.

    How old is the skimmer?
Are the bubbles making it past your bubble trap?

Yes they are, each section is reducing them but some are making it, I can see them in the main tank. The protien skimmer has been great in taking out a good cup a week (since I tend to over feed), I bought it used, so I'm not sure how old it is.

With red slime remover you should run skimmerless for 2 days, then do a 20% water change. Then thereafter switch skimmer back on. At the moment you are removing the red slime remover before it can do its job.

    Diffinately the "slime remover"

1- How long since you added the slime remover?

2 - If I'm correct, you are meant to turn the skimmer off for a period after dosing?

3 - Try raising the whole skimmer up

4 - Waterchange, which I'm also sure is recommended?

At the back of the box

Must change water (20%) after every treatment (48 hours) ....
Turn off protein skimmer, UV sterilizer and/or ozonizer and remove Chemi-Pure or Carbon filtration for 24 hours following each treatment.... maintain oxygen with airstone or other aerotor....

I used the venturi on one of the powerheads. Oh, and I could have switch skimmer back on 24 hours after treatment.
Ooops, bad bad boy me, also did not read properly :)

Thanks for all the feedback, yes I do need to do a better job in reading the point about not running the skimmer for 2 days... I did have it off for some time, but not enough. I'll try to run it tomorrow evening to make sure,,, just don't like running without it, kinda over -concerned about my system is not filtering..
