    Hi guys

Please don't laugh but I'm clueless and need help.. My little Tank is operational for about 6 days now...I've added a Powerhead and closed my "watergate???"..plastic little tube thing where water goes thru and got some "white bubbles" in my Protein Skimmer???? for the first time...I've notice some particles floating on the surface and looked at....what I think is called the Protein Skimmer... and saw no bubbles, actually I seem to have no flow...Am I suppose to have lots of bubbles...? I'm under the impression that I do...

I've been looking at the Boyu WG 308...am [IMG]

I correct in thinking that I need to change that...? As you see no bubbles...

Please guys one adjust at a time as I'm still learning and don't even know what the names of the different Hardwares are...:whistling:

Hubby just brought it home and expects it to be plugged in and 100% functional  and expects no upgrades so I'll have to break him in slowly...UNFORTUNATELY 100% NO DEMOLITION TO TANK..HENCE "PLUG IN AND PLAY" TANK...I'm only going to have 2 Nemo's and a Goby in the Tank...if they go with my Brittle Starfish that's in my Tank already...thanks to the purchase of my LR I bought...

What you looking for is skimmate.

Since the skimmer is new. It usually takes a few days to start working. You also need to dial your skimmer in. Which should take 3 days +-.

The skimmer isnt the best but it will work.

You could speed this process up by using Water and White Vinegar in a seperate bucket to get rid of the oils that are used in the making of the skimmer.

    How a skimmer works :

DOC - Disolved Organic Carbons - Dirty - bonds to bubbles and in turn move up the chamber and become bigger then burst or move to the top and over into the cup. This is how we remove all the bad DOC's in the tank.

    Hope this helps.

Tell us more about your system.

Hi Belinda, that is your skimmer in the second picture but it doesnt look like it's producing a lot of bubbles from what I can see. I'm not too clued up on your type of tank but I'm sure guys will be along to help you tweak it to get better bubble production

yes. In the top picture, the airline tubing with the balck piece on the end thats used t ocontrol the amount of air going into the skimmer. It looks like the end that sucks air might be in the water or at least partialy in the water.

Yup I also see your airline tube under water,
The skimmer pump works buy, cause a suction to bring air from that tube to the skimmer with will turn the air into tiny bubble with dirt is attracted to, the bubbles rise to the top and as mentioned by Sentari busts and flows into the collection cup at the top, which holds all the skimate (the dirt) from the water. so that tube should indeed be dry and left in the open hanging out the back of the tank or high above the water level. :1:

Try get the bubbles to be just below the top of the neck. It will take time to adjeust it until is skims better. But it looks much better.

Usually we all like our skimmers to skim dry.

Looks better Belinda :) altho I think yours has water in it now, so try and remove the water and get the bubbles to flow just below the neck the bubbles will accumulate and eventual look like this

If I turn it anymore I'm back to where I started...if I move a fraction more, it looks like I'll close it again...any long term damage to fish or hardware if I can't get bubbles down much...?

Slow adjustments and you should be able to get it right. Fiddle a bit.

Its not going to do any damage to anything. What a skimmer does is removes all the crap before it does cause damage.

:p Dont stress... remove the box and empty it out, replace it and dont let water flow into it, remember the bubbles are going to accumulate, so the bubbles dont have to reach the top just, below the entrance of the collection cup, maybe set it to 0.5cm below..
