    Some heavy reading there.
Very interesting though. Its surprising to see how the effiicencies of some pumps differ from advertised ratings.

Wow, that is an awesome article, thanks achilles. Tunze clearly has some serious egg on their face, and vortech kind of the hill. Maybe its worth me saving up to get one for my nano...

Anybody seen the new Sicce pumps with controllers. You get pumps rated from 3000lph up to 15000lph and there is a 3 year warranty which even Vortech doesnt offer and I cant speak for Tunze. They are also a fraction of the price of Vortech or Tunze. When my Vortechs pack in those are my new pumps although I want to add two small ones with a controller to supplement my flow

I really think that if the tunzes work its not a huge issue. I also think that Tunzes will last longer than Vortechs due to their design.

Hi Martin. See the link below but it is the pumps you have in the link.

@ziyaadb. I've had vortechs for close on four years now without a single issue except to replace a caramic bush and shaft on one so they are quiet sturdy if they are set up correctly. A lot of guys dont align them properly and that's where the problems come in

There is a slight issue of scientific credibility, seeing as EcoTech appear to have almost sponsored the study.

Looks like personal taste in powerheads are the same discussion as on cars. Mine is faster, mine is more fuel efficient, but mine is red...

See EcoTech sponsored parts of this comparison. Interesting.
I'm glad Tunze is willing to respond to the test results.

I do agree, some basic guideline must be followed by all pump providers, so that we as end consumer can compare the one to the other.

But this is really a interesting comparison.

Z, I had to send it to Scott via a pet shop as they wont repair directly for some strange reason. It cost about R 320-00 to replace the ceramic bush, shaft and they had to put a new propellor as well because I have the old MP 40W and the spares for them arent available and the props are for the new parts only

The problem is not whoever sponsored the test , Tunze agreed their flows are wrong according to this article, and that is a major issue , i hope they can address

i mean a hydor koralia 8 pumps out almost the same as a Tunze 6305, that is just not right!

more info "Although the output and ratings of Tunze Stream 2 pumps show a big difference in output, it doesnt change the fact that many large successful reef tanks have been using large Stream pumps for many years. We have learned that Tunze has already begun to identify the reasons for the shortcomings between the calculated output of Tunze Stream pumps and their measured flow rate. Stay tuned for an official statement from Tunze which outlines their position on this study and how they have identified ways to actually increase the output of the 6105, 6205 and 6305 for existing owners of the Stream 2 propeller pumps." this is what i want to know

    Very interesting!

This will probably throw spanner in the work, especially if Tunze have acknowledged thier figure may be out. This will throw the whole Rand/Flow/Wattage equation into the air? Makes me wonder?

Still think their quality is good though!

From Reef central thread it looks as though Tunze is going to make new covers for their pumps to bring the flow inline with the advertised flow- We just need George to confirm this.

I just bought 2 of these (12000 lph) with the wave controller for my new fish only system. Price did not break the bank and I cant complain as yet.
