Hey guys I have an idea....why don't we have a project where we help reefers that just can't get into a winning situation with their tanks. For example if someone has just about tried everything in the book but just can't get rid of a green hair algae problem.

Suggestion is that the pro's go out to the reefers property and help.....we would also need the help of the sponsors to sponsor some of the stuff that would be needed in order to help.

Now I'm not saying we should fix all these tanks for free.....but it would be best if the persons tank could be viewed in person and advise as in what needs to be done should be given, and there after a follow up or two???

Thank you, see......we have fab sponsors here....so we must think of a system where te guys can enter their requests to be helped...and tell us their stories with some pics.We can also post after pics when a fellow reefer helped and a tank looks better than the red sea after he/she is done

I think it is a great idea, but you will need to work out a merit system.
What qualifies as a system in dire need of saving?
Do the reefer have the financial means to sustain the reef?
No point in telling him/her to buy X amount on supplements every month.

I think it should be more of a visit tank and give advise on what to do next.

Still a wonderful idea and great to see Nemo on board!

It's a lovely gesture as so many reach a stage were we can either go on or feel defeated...that's when we need a helping hand thru that dark patch...

    @Jinx i like this idea.

Perhaps we sould bring this up at our next Jhb Reef meeting

Nemo is already in, I am prepared to help, and i think we can also count on @dallasg.

did you have a specific reefer in mind?

I did that a couple of times. Seeing the system is always easier to understand what is going on.
Its up to whoever if they want to follow your advice or not.

Perhaps a online form stipulating everything thats going on in your tank, parameters, stocking, filtration etc etc etc, if nobody on the forum can identify where the problem lies then have a "house call-out" as a last resort, otherwise the sponsors might get awfully busy :whistling:
    Just my 2c.

i am in, i do this often, @Clownfish9906, @BarryG and @nickname to mention a few

i love this hobby and always willing to loose more garage space to help out :)

most times the solution is there, and should cost very little, this hobby doesnt need to be more expensive than it is...

so most times its just a bit of education and understanding the biology and WHAM all is fixed or on the mend...

i dont mind travelling to most places, there is nothing better than helping a reefer out...

but we can make a group visit etc... i am not going to lie, but i would need a few days notices as things can get busy for me, and my memory is not what it used to be
