    Hi Everyone,

My first post on MASA - the beginning of a very exciting journey into Reef keeping I hope:whoohoo:

I've had a couple of tropical tanks, but the reef gogga has bitten me bad, so I'll have to treat it...
I'm currently in the very early stages of my tank design and learning as much as I can.

I'm going to do a DIY build with the tank about 1000x700x400 (water level @ +-35).
I'll post the sketchup drawings as soon as I've done them to be scrutinzed and optimised.

Oh and btw: there are some really really awesome reefs on MASA!

Welcome to MASA, glad you joined. There's some good reading for you in my signature on starting a marine tank ;)
Why do you go so shallow? Why not go 500mm with water level at 480mm or even 600mm with water level at 580mm. I had a shallow tank, although lekka to work in but you are limited to stack live rock high. It means you can only stack your live rock to about 150-200mm to leave space for corals to grow. And to have corals all the way up to the water surface minimise swimming space for the fish again. I know, been there ;)

Here's a pic of my shallow tank I had last year

I wanted to go with shallow because I liked the look of it, but considering what you said I'll increase the heigh. I haven't thought of it that way (about the space for corals to grow). Thanks for the tip.
