    Hey Guys
I live in Botswana, I have a 150cm x 65cm x 60cm Marine Tank it has been running for about a year. I had some t5's on the tank but they kinda died a few weeks ago, so now i have a 400w MH light on the tank. In the tank is +- 100kg's of live rock. And a total of 4 fish, not the easiest thing to come by in a land locked country.

I will attach pics as soon as possible.

I have been reading on the forum and decided to get more into the game a lil, ie corals.

Now here's the question I wanna ask, i am very keen to swap to LED lighting. I have the following kit in mind 49 LEDs Controller DIY kit, but it obviously wont be enough for the tank so I would like to know from the experts how many led's they would suggest and if there are local suppliers in RSA, otherwise I will just order from the net.

    Regards
    Manie

    Welcome to masa manie!
Glad to see a botswana guy joining us!
That led kit actually looks quite nice. Should be enough for that tank to keep all medium light corals...
Just remember to buy the correct length heatsink with that kit.

Thanks for the info guys. So you think 48 led's would be enough?

I'm thinking 3 heat sheilds each with a fan.
    Led wise
    7 actinic violet
    21 white 10k
    21 rb
    4 pink
    4 cyan
    7 uv
    a moon light kit

Will a 350w 24v power supply handle this?

Total cost would be $501 including shipping and tax

    Hi and welcome
You need to use LED drivers not a power supply unless its a constant current one
I would make it as follows
    4 actinic violet
    20 white 10k
    8 white 6500k
    20 rb
    4 red
    4 cyan
    4 uv
Split in 2 heatsinks which will give you 700x700 foot print with 80deg optics
I used one 300x200 unit with no lenses to light my 1200x800x500 with 28leds
2 of those would work for you

Truth be told rather go with the new maxpect razor R5000 for a great led unit at 160w
    Or orphek dif 100

DIY is great but for that price you can get retail, something to consider

Let me think on it, it also depends on what corals you want to keep and what budget

Welcome to MASA. Take a look under the sponsor section at Reef Aquatics. They have a nice LED unit that looks pretty decent and it will cost the same as going DIY.
