Thats a yellow Goniopora...not the easiest coral to have as one of your first I am afraid. They have very poor survival rates...most not living longer than a year. That being said I have had my red goni for over a year now and its still doing well. Keep it in an area of moderate flow...u want the polyps to extand out far, if they are drawn in and close to the base the coral is not happy.

I suggest you read up as much as you can on this coral so you give it a better chance of surviving.

Great to see tank cycling well. I know the feeling of going to a LFS and saying I must have that coral... but as these experts say, you first find out everything, then go buy... Good Luck with your birthday present.

I see the Aitapsia also thriving... good luck getting rid of it soon. Hehe, a month ago I thought they were cool...... Then I saw how they take over and strangle everything that lives on rocks... now I detest them and they must be nuked at all costs...:yeahdude:

Whats the best advice? take it back to the LFS?
    Or trade it for Zoas?

If I were you it would be the best bet at this point, maybe try one again one day...the red encrusting is supposed to be the easier of the lot to keep...so something to remember for the future.

Good luck though either way, they are awesome corals...just a pity about most of their survival rates.

looking awesome dude, I'd say why dont you move it to the big purple rock on the left hand side, if it doesnt start looking happy in a few days, you could consider that...
