Thanks guys! This guy has been sold and is going to be shipped off tomorrow (assuming he is still pregnant). I've gotten a lot of requests for pregnant males. I shipped four horses today, two were pregnant males.

    Hi Anemone,

Was wondering what happened, you have been so quite - nice to see you back and even better to see you are still shipping one pregnant male after another. I really need to know what the magic item is you add to your tanks.

Still no Ponies on our side, but a lot of positive progress. Seems like the States are in now BIG hurry to get the documentation ready

    Best Wishes

    Andre

I don't add anything special to their tanks. I do feed them Hikari Mysis 3 times a day and clean up waste 3 times a day. There is no sand, no LR, no CUC, no macro algae. There is a HOB Aqua C skimmer and AquaClear filter on the tank. Apparently they are so bored all day long that the only thing they can find to do is reproduce!

The fry get fed 3 - 4 (preferrably 4) times a day and the bottom siphoned off several times a day. The brine is enriched for 24 hours (starting at approx. 12 hours after hatch) before being fed. After the first 12 hours the enrichment is drained, brine is cleaned with tap water, and a new enrichment is set up. I also tear down the fry tanks once a week and bleach everything. All equipment that has come in contact with brine is bleached after every use (nets, hatcheries, tubing, etc).

I can't wait to see pictures of everyones ponies!

Beth may I please ask some "stupid" questions
    1. Do the ponies not get bothered by all the cleaning. I would have thought that the human interference would frighten them.
    2. How big are the tanks and how many seahorses per tank
    3. What do you use to vacuum or clean the base, surely this means a water change after every siphoning.

What ever you are doing you are doing it right and for that I applaud you

    Thanks Andre!

    Who's Beth? LOL

They are fine with human interference. They have been dealing with it from the time they were born. My friends have been known to come over and hold seahorses. I've even had a 4 year old hold a poni in a bucket of water.

The tanks vary and change as they grow. They are currently in a 29 gallon. I've used 5 gallons, 10 gallons, and 20 gallons. It depends on their age and how many there are.

I use ridged airline tubing, attached to regular airline tubing to siphon the bottom. Usually the flow pushes most of the waste to one area of a tank, which makes cleaning much faster. There isn't much water removed at each cleaning. Water is replaced throughout the day.

Here are some other pics I took of what is left from the ones I raised:

Another pregnant male trying to hide behind his much smaller mate...Not working out to well!

Then there is the if you can't get pregnant, you are beneath me...literally!

Then we have the "Proud to be a male hoe and voted as the most likely to have the most unwanted pregnancies!

And the ......."if you take food from my feeding dish, I'll spit a fry at you and knock your eye out":
