Power outages, a real scurge to the aquarist. if you are lucky enough to already own a TUNZE electronic pump all you need is a 6105.500 safety connector (R 420.00) & a small 12 volt gate battery
(R 150.00-R170.00) at any gate shop or hobby shop. You can also add a charger which then recharges the battery when power comes on again.(220.00) A1 Radio

The saftey connector will circulate 1 electronic pump for a few hours or power an 1070.05 silence return pump for a few hours. you wont even see that it has come on it is an instant change on and off.

    No more dead stuff
Just another example as to why TUNZE is superior

I had a 10 hour power outage over the weekend.

6 months ago i installed a Tunze Silence Electronic Recirculation Pump 1073.05, safety connector and a backup battery.

System run perfectly for the duration of the outage. It really is a load off your min knowing that your tank is in good hands!

Depends on gennys wattage but you could get away with 100W Heater for tank, probably two most important things to run, pumps and heater for the temp time of outage

is this a true sine wave or modified sine wave?

Lucky for me the Tunze pump is a 12v dc pump and runs straight off a battery, no gennies and inverters required!

Talk about Winter. At this stage don't know whats going on with the weather, 1 day winter next day summer, wish it would make up its bloody mind ,LOL.
Yeah genny's are cool if you like the noise, was chatting with an electrician and is waiting to come up with a way to pull the motor out of a genny and replace it with an electric motor, but then would have to sort out timing issues on the genny, then that way sorts out noise and running of fuel.
Yeah butcheman running a true sinewave inveter

Updates on prices for TUNZE electronic pumps, these pumps will all work with a 6105.50 Safety Connector (R488 incl) to ensure power continues during an outage (plus a small battery)
    6055 R2304 incl
    6105 R3299 incl
    6205 R5196 incl
    6305 R7296 incl
    1073.05 R2206 incl
All prices enjoy a 10% discount for MASA members and do not include freight, which is door to door R136.80 incl. Prices can change due to the Rand/Euro exchange rate. George

    Rolling Electricity outages looming

    Stay hassle free with Tunze

The 1073.05 would be the better option as this is a controllable electronic return pump which means you tank would still be circulating. Sump stays alive also, during outage.

For those of you with smaller tanks a 3000l/h flow might be too much all you need do is lower the pumps flow to the required flow with voltage jumpers supplied as standard with all Tunze electronic pumps.

The pictures above show the 1073.05 return pump and 6055 nano stream with match box to show actual size. I don't think there is another pump on the market this small with a 360 degree flow and can pump from 1000l/h to 5500l/h this baby would run for a couple of days on the tiny battery shown. I have also included the Battery and the tiny charger which automatically charges the battery and when full, switches itself off till the next time it is needed. The battery and charger is available from any A1 radio or Electronic shop.

Any idea what the 1073.05's flow would be with a 1,5m head? And more or less how long would it be able to run on one of those batteries?

since you are using a 12 volt battery to power the unit at a height of 1.5 meters a theoretical flow should be 1400 l/h please note this has been worked out mathematically on paper and is only theoretical. That figure would change to normal assuming you are using a 24v,18v, 15 v jumper.

    Hi George

Can I use a 12V battery while the jumper used on the pump is 24V?

Yes you don't have to change jumpers the pump will run at 12v delivering the 12v power it will revert back to full power once the power is restored. You could use a 24v battery to deliver full power during the outage.
