Try borrow/rent a gennie if you dont have one , otherwise a few(depends on tank size and amount of fish) battery operated pumps with air stones should be fine for that time period as its not too long.

I know you get one for about R70 but I bought the ac/dc one for R350. It's awesome.

I think the 2 D size batteries for the cheap one cost more than the pump.

You can use 40 percent hydrogen peroxide at a rate of 5ml per 200 litres every four hours to oxygenate the water. Mix it in the water and move the water with your hands. I have survived 10 hour failures with no fish or coral losses

I paid R60 at Pets Aquaria (a sponsor) in the Strand. In my case it lasted for a full 9 hour power outage last week.

You can get it in thirty or forty percent. Costs about R8 bucks for a 200ml bottle

Why not just get a small inverter to power your return pump. If the outage is during the day you wont have many problems with keeping the tank warm

Yeah and even if it was at night you would have to have sub-zero temperatures in your house for quite a long period for the temp. to drop significantly to harm the LS.

Water's temp. properties are very different to air, as in it retains heat longer.

Good suggestion tony. I had an invertor that powered my return, flow pumps in the DT and heater! And a lamp to study with haha. Guess maybe was cos I only had a little bucket of water of a fish tank.

    Missing it!
