How advisable is it to use the flexible pool hoses to feed a sump?

    Hey @riyadh ,

Can't say for sue but IMO rather don't.... Have a look at this thread...

Garden irrigation connectors - warning - Marine Aquariums of South Africa

It's by no means the same, but if these fittings could be eroded like that I can only imagine what will happen to swimming pool hoses... And if you think about it, all those riffs will just be a place for nasties to build up...

    Just my thoughts...

Cool, Thanks, the reason I asked was because I saw on an international site someone was using these hoses.

I'm sure you can give it a go, but just keep a close eye on degrading of the pipes... U wouldn't wanna come home one day after work only to find water all over the place...

I’ve been using it for about 7 months now and so far no problems

Used it for four years on my previous system, had no issues. Pipe was feeding downwards and not horizontal for a distance.

On my current build I am only using PVC pipes because of water travelling horizontally for a distance.

Will not trust a pool pipe for that, unless you support it somehow (still not worth the risk i think)

Cool, think I will just use one length where the pipe enters the sump, thus making it convenient to get out of the way when needed

Only issue with this is the fact that it is smaller than 50mm making finding fittings difficult. There is a 50mm flexi pipe pipe you find at the plumbing section at Builders which works better and is much stronger, they are about 30cm long.

I used a pool hose on my return with no issues, I also saw it on a few tanks overseas so I assumed it's safe. If you cut the connector bit off it slips onto a 50mm pvc pipe pretty tightly with no need to clamp it or anything. I had hoped to find a black pipe but it seems they dont make them anymore. Here's a pic of my return

I used it once before. Just check the wording on the outside of the connector, Sand that down a bit, can cause a leakage there.
