    Hi Guys!

    Sorry about bugging you guys!

I bought a midas blenny yesterday afternoon
    at +/- 3:00 pm.

Had a look at the tank this morning and was shocked to find that he is not looking too hot. :(

He is constantly in a corner in a vertical position with
his mouth at the water surface.
It seems as though he is struggling to breathe.

Any suggestions? I do not want to lose my first fish!

Had the water tested yesterday &
everything seems to be fine, excepting the alkalinity which is low.

    Water parameters:
    Marine ph = 8.2
    Nitrite +/- 0
    Nitrate = 5
    Total & free ammonia +/- 0
    Salinity 1 025
Temperature about 25 at the moment

Total Alkalinity +/- 4 (too low for corals but
o.k. for fish only at this stage
    !)???

I am not sure if I should try and feed him because he looks stressed out!

    Help PLEEEAAAZZZEE!

    Cheers,
    Costa.

It sound almost like there is a need of oxygen. Maybe try a air pump in the tank and see if it helps...

Did you drip or float the bag before you put him in and how long did you take to do it.

It was recommended that I could use the drip method or bucket method.

I put him in a bucket & introduced water from my main tank very slowly into the bucket.

I added small amounts of water into the bucket over a period of about 90 min. until the bucket was full.

the fish was only then introduced into the main tank.

Get a hose and clamp it so it drips in constantly. Say the bag has 1L of water you want 6 L of your tank water to go in over 60 to 90 mins. Cost I hope it makes it. It's always sad and more so when it's your first.

For now switch off your lights and maybe it might help. See what he looks like to morrow

    Thanks for your help guys!

I must admit that the signs are not too positive at the moment..he is still the same!

My tank has been up & running for 4 months already!
So I doubt whether it is a cycling problem or an oxygen problem.

I tried to entice him with some food but to no avail.

    Keeping fingers crossed!

You need to see that the fish eats before buying it!

It can be stress, the fish could have been caught with sionide, long flight, bad acclimatisation from the shop ect ect
How long has the fish been at the shop before you purchased it.(if it landed a couple of days ago then it could be that aswell)

There is so many factors that plays a big role.
The fault my not always be with your system....

Thanks for the sound advice Lanzo!

I should have checked whether he was eating etc. etc. before I bought him(my fault), but hindsight is always 20/20 vision.
Those are the obvious indicators of good health & I overlooked then I suppose.

I am not too sure where to from here though.

    Hi Lanzo!

Don't have any vitamins at the moment & I am not feeding him live brine shrimp either.

He is eating flakes & pellets & seems to be o.k. OCEAN NUTRITION range.

I am only worried about potential white spot though.

    Thanks for the advice!
