Hi all - I have the exact same type of tang as this:

Can anyone please let me know what the exact correct name/type of this fish is?

    Many thanks.

Thanks, Midasblenny! I am not sure - I actually originally bought it (when it was smaller) as a "Yellow Doctor".... now it's coloring is EXACTLY as the picture above.... (this is not my picture though)..... I am not sure if it is the "Chocolate Tang", or ""Yellow Eyed Bristletooth" tang or perhaps the "Kole tang"........ I am VERY confused? ;-)

Nice pic Jacques, you take it yourself?

Afraid I can't help you with a definite ID, it was sold to me as Acanthurus coeruleus but I can tell you it's definitely not that.

What I do know is that these Bristle tooth Tangs are fantastic algae eaters. Best in the business in my opinion.

Sure are of algal films so would aid immensely in keeping rock etc clean but mine hardly touches established tufts of algae so would prob not help if you are fighting bryopsis or hair algae.

Hi guys - many thanks. Yeah, sure looks like a Kole tang..... As I said in my post - I also bought this little guy of mine (probably Rory's fish's little brother ;-) as a "Yellow Doctor"...... But, when it started to change coloring, I started to investigate - this little fella is a "vegeterian wolf in sheeps clothes" ;-)

Thanks again for your assistance in identifying him..... Just goes to show - you don't always get what you are buying, hey? ;-)

Yeah it's not quite always the LFS's fault because the suppliers overseas sometimes "mislabel" stuff and then the distrubtors here don't correct it and the LFS doesn't correct it etc. (sometimes because it has a better/more expensive name than what it is, sometimes because it's actually just "known" by that name when it isn't)

Hi Mike - you see what I mean? Those fish look VERY much the same.... mine was a slight shade of yellow darker than the other "Yellow/Blue doctor tangs".... And the other "Yellow/Blue doctor tangs" did not have "blue rings" around the eyes (yet?).... So, all of the sudden my little tang developed into the same coloring, as the pic I "borrowed" from Rory.... ;-)

    With spots and all....

BUT, now I am glad - the Kole tang is a beautiful fish too. And so handy at "chowing" algae......

Mine is actually looking more purple with the yellow ring around the eye being emphasised more now.

Hi Rory - yeah - seems to be changing color, more and more, as time goes by....

Funny thing though, mine was also sold to me as a coerellius (sp?)
