    Hi guys

Anyone know where to get hold of play sand in Port Elizabeth? Nobody seems to have it. I have tried Builders Warehouse, Baby Boom, Toys R Us. Maybe I am just not speaking to the right people at each place.

Are there any "downsides" to using play sand as a substrate?

I currently have arag alive in my tank and with my upgrade I am considering my options. Mixing the 2 in the DT isnt an option as I have Hawaiin Black. The play sand may also be used in the sump for the DSB and what ever is left over may be used as the substrate for a small nano I am thinking of setting up at the office.

Your help would be greatly aprpeciated.

reggies? works great as a substrate some guys get frustrated when it blows around the tank, not sure many guys will have different opinions, I've actually mixed it with fine crushed coral in my Boyu TL-550 works great, clean it well tho...

The "cleaner" sand will be in a reserve. Will I get stopped for taking buckets of sand from the beach?

I prefer the playsand to beach sand. It's a lot whiter.

A word of warning on collecting beach sand. I built a sandpit for a woman once and she suggested beach sand so I shot down to the beach with a couple of buckets and halfway through the collection process a fisheries officer stopped me and informed me that it was a criminal offense to collect sand off a beach. He also told me that if I wanted sand I could collect "wind blown" sand in a parking lot or on a pavement. He suggested a local surf spot that had a parking lot full of sand. It was about five years back so I don't know if laws have changed at all since then. Just phone the relative authorities and make sure.

    Thanks!

Chatted to a guy the other day that said he tried to get sand from Maitland sometime ago and got stopped. So I'd rather not take the chance. Will go check out Makro.

Got some from makro. You had much hassle with long hair algae of any kind? What angle are you wavers at?

How should I rinse the playsand before use?
