What's your opinion ? Is it safe to use play sand in a new setup and let it run for a few weeks before putting any live stock in ? More so - is it safe to use local sea sand ?

    both is safe

Just wash the playsand like a 100 times. It is very dirty, even if the bag say "washed"

There's a place in front of the rocks at Witsand where the sand is nice and coarse. Was thinking of using that - thrn I also have a bit of my favourite beach in my tank - ----

need to ask the other Cape Town reefers where to get sand. Witsand, I've been there many many moons ago. Bloubergstrand up is too polluted after Seli 1 stranded there for months.

But down to Knysna side, not sure where either. There was a shipwreck not long ago down there.

Dont go the local sand route, unless you are going to wash it thoroughly, even then, i'd rather use aragonite.

Collect here in Hermanus. Clean unpolluted beaches. Dont collect near the main beach(grotto) where the lagoon is. Sandbaai is good. I use it and know of a few guys in Hermanus who do. I prefer it to the aragonite.
