    Hi everyone

I'm planning on setting up a dymax iq3 pico reef tank. I have already purchased the tank and various basic equipment such as a basic saltwater test kit, and extra dymax robot 14k led light, sand,a really small heater which fits into the back area, salt mix, tetra saltwater safe start and lots more.

Planning on setting up the tank after christmas so the stores are open and I can get live rock etc.

Could I just get some tips on the actual setup process and some ideas for filtration( no mod's though please;) )

    Thanks

    Thanks

I got the tank from VIP pets in north gate for R695 and the extra light was about R230 so every thing for just over R900

As soon as the tank is up and running I will take plenty of pictures and also go through the equipment and setup stage that I have used

    Hi

Does anyone have a ATO system on their tanks that is not a diy one but a kit that you can get from a store in south Africa, eg. Jbj ATO system

    Thanks

I'm using it as display so I would rather not have and bunny bottle hanging above the tank:p

    Thanks for the input thought

I see you're in KZN - speak to a sponsor of MASA's who goes by the name of Marco AKA @The Waterboy... he should be able to help you out... check his site @ www.thewaterboy.co.za

If not, you can get hold of a float switch from him and plug it into a small powerhead that will push water into your tank via some inline tubing. Not too hard to set up ;)

Have you ever used copper based medication in your discuss tank while using the ph pen??
    Copper is deadly to marines!!

im not too sure...but i had a quarantine tank which i used for my discus but i didn't use the ph pen while medicating. if i did happen to get some copper on there how would i make it safe to use for the reef tank. i will do it as a precaution though, just incase.

    another update:

got a refractometer to day as i also installed my RO unit and got about 10 liters out after i had 'run it in' which is just enough for the tank, also purchased an ATO system and live rock.

started mixing the water with salt today in another little tank which i will use for holding fresh RO water for my top off, also put the live rock in there

every thing seem to be perfect and my salinity is currently sitting at 1.024 with all of the salt dissolved which is great

setting up the tank on christmas day and will provide photo's of the setup process

i would also like to thank Chris at Northlands Pets for every thing and some great advice

    thanks
