    Hey everyone,

Here is a side by side picture of the growth rate of my caliendrum. The picture on the left was taken on the 10 July 2009 and the one on the right is today (4 August 2009) so it's just under a months worth of growth. At first I was using 20 000K 150W MH's but have switched to 6500K 150W MH's. So far growth rate is looking good and colouration as well. It might look a lot more dull now but that is just the colour of the light, when placed under 20 000K globes is looks a lot more colourfull than when I got it.

Good growth there Manic! Nail that Caliendrum with hectic random flow and watch it really take off. The growth rate with high flow is insane.

It's getting the most flow in the tank at the moment. I'm pretty happy with the growth rate. At night you can the little white growth tips. I'll try post a pic tonight. Almost every tip is spliting into about three...

Calcium 420, Alkalinity 10 kH. What is the optimal values for best growth? I've heard about elevated levels provide best growth, so Calcium at 500 and kH of 12 but then I've also heard this doesn't work...

If you are running a low nutrient or a nutrient poor system, ideally you want your Ca 380-420 and Alk 6.5-8.5 DKH. These are NSW levels. Reason why I suggest running these levels on a nutrient poor or low nutrient system is because very high Alk will cause RTN /STN. With these water parameters along with strong flow, lighting, heavy skimming and low nutrients, your growth will be excellent. I have read somewhere in the past that a Ca level above 420 will not make much difference to growth of corals.
Should you wish to encourage coraline algae growth, raise your Alk above 9 DKH.

Okay so keeping your KH above 9 will encourage Coraline growth...

That is correct Riyadh. Not forgetting low phosphates and Mg around 1350. :)
