    Hi

    Hi

Thought of turning one of my freshwater Nanos into a marine.

Will post a few pics and please tell me what I need to change where.

Ok the tank itself is a standard 1ft with custom filter to back.

Things I thought of changing. Overflow holes will be bigger 8mm each.
Return pump replaced with a 300-400 rated pump.

Add another CFL light fitting for 1x 14W Daylight and 1x 14W Sky white.
    Maybe a blue LED nightlight.

Tank completed. The one on the right will be the marine cadidate as the filer section have not been fitted.
The back gets covered so no equipment visible.

So what am I missing and do I need to add etc?

Will like to keep soft corals and maybe a shrimp or goby.

    THanks
    Gerhard

If you want to do corals, you will have to do something about lighting.

Some mushrooms and zoas will be ok in there. Its too small for other soft corals in anyway.

Looks awesome... u can put loads of corals in there :)

Check out my pico tank I even have a frogspawn in mine and its only got a LED light...mind u its next to the window and gets a lot of natural light.

What do u have in the back? you using some chemical filtration such as carbon, purigen, some sort of phos remover?

Overall I like it, really neat...nice work!

I did check out your pico, what made me think maybe I can have a go at one too.
Actually hoped one of you guys with pico experience would come by and give some input.

Was thinking of getting a DIY LED system from this guy Home Page and installing it. Any ideas on this? The leds seems to have the right PAR for marine systems as on his website.

Nothing so far, so the question is what DO I need back there?

I would add a bit of liverock rubble to the back for filtration, put some floss or something to that effect over that to catch the smaller particles...make sure you clean this regularly. Then add some chemical filtration...you could go with Chemi Pure Elite...which is an all in one and should last a long time, else a little Phos Guard, Purigen and some granular activated carbon.

That LED system looks quite nice, maybe something to look into if you are keen.

You should seriously consider a small skimmer (eg nw80) if you want to keep corals :) ... LED lighting should be fine for your tank as it is not very deep.

I kept a fully stocked 128L TL-550 tank with lots of corals without a skimmer. All I had was lots of live rock and used purigen.

Did a redesign of the filter section. Will now have 2x 250L/H pumps.

Would like to add Chemi Pure Elite to the over flow section and then either liverock ruble or ceramic rings to the rest of the filter.

Will do 10% water changes every week or more.

Will post a drawing of the new filter design and you can tell me what you think.

Sadly the guy does not ship to south africa so I am planning something different in terms of the led lighting.

    Lights

    Hi again all.

Been bit of a crazy time since the last decade I started this.

Just want to check something on lights.

How much light will I need on a 30x30x30cm cube if I only want to keep rics and a small piece of frogspawn?

Also planning on building a skimmer into the back. The same little ones used in the TL-450.

What size of return pump would I need to look at that will make the coral happy and keep things flowing?

    Hi

    Finally starting some things.

Looking for a Boyu WG-308 skimmer. Hopefully somebody who bought a TL450 have
    one laying around after upgrading.

    Regards

    Ok another decade later :)

Moved town so now the planning is back in the blueprint room.
Some changes in mind for the build.

Just need to get my FW display tank sold and its green for go.

That's a brilliant question. Never saw that. Maybe the mods can figure out what happened because I have no idea.

    Hi all

Talk about long term planning :)

    Ok so I build a 19x19x 21 high tank. Will 2 x 6500K 3W and 3 x 20 000K 3W leds be enough
lighting if I keep a frogspawn, rics and zoas?

Can I use coral sand as a substrate?

    Regards
